A RESEARCH ON DETERMINING THE LEVELS OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP OF TEACHER CANDIDATES

Abstract

All the societies aim to raise world-known entrepreneurs. This process is really a difficult task. In order to fulfill this aim, entrepreneur culture may be presented at child ages in schools. Some basic skills in entrepreneurship can be developed through training. In recent years, the development of entrepreneurial characteristics of students has come to the fore for all educational levels. This situation began to reflect on the curriculum. When it is examined from that point of view a tough task comes out for today’s and tomorrow’s teachers. Therefore, to the extent that teachers have entrepreneurial characteristics may be important. This study aims to examine social entrepreneurship level of teacher candidates and variables affecting this level. In the study, quantitative research method and relational screening model were used. As the tool of data collection, Pre-service Teachers’ Social Entrepreneurship Qualifications Scale which was developed by Konaklı and Göğüş (2013) was used. The scale is made up of 21 items and 3 factors. These factors were named as risk taking, self-confidence, and self-creativity. The sample of the study is made up of Primary School teacher candidates who study at the Faculty of Education. SPSS 20.0 package program was used for data analysis. As a result of data analysis, teacher candidates’ level of social entrepreneurship was found to be high. Along with this, self-confidence was found to be at a higher level than the other characteristics of social entrepreneurship. According to the scale total score and factors has a significant difference for gender and grade variables. The significant differences were not found between the graduated secondary schools with the scale total score and factors.
