Abstract
This work revolves around one of the widespread outcomes of language contact that is ‘Borrowing’. It deals with the later in the context of Algerian Arabic and particularly in the discourse of fishing in Beni saf speech community. Our research is a bi-dimensional work as it tackles Hispanism in the language of Algerian Fishermen from social and cultural points of views. As a “Social event” by investigating the social and psychological motives that lie behind the linguistic transfer. As a “cultural event” by examining how borrowed instances are perceived culturally by the Beni saf Fisherman community. Through the survey study, we attempt to bring a reflection on the main factors that underpin the intergenerational transmission of those Spanish items which are principally inherited from the Spaniards a decade ago. For the fieldwork, a questionnaire and an unstructured interview are used and the results seem to reveal interesting data on how fishermen’ discourse is highly influenced by cultural, psychological and linguistic realities including societal identity, linguistic needs, social needs, linguistic capacity, cultural interest, social belonging , modernism, memory revival, satisfaction of needs…etc
