SOCIAL LIFE ANALYSIS OF FOREST COMMUNITY: SOCIAL MAPPING FOR A BETTER FOREST MANAGEMENT

Abstract
Social community of Taman Jaya mainly dominated by farmer and fisherman. Plant cultivation that pursued by the community are crop plantation and fields. The location of Taman Jaya village is nearby Ujong Kulon National Park, so that the community really have high dependency of the forest itself. Community necessity for forest and its resources nearby national park has increased and it affect the rising level of encroachment at Ujung Kulon National Park. Encroachment which found in the past mostly done by the community nearby the national park were conversion the land use of forest to fields or crop plantation. Resulting of the major of encroachment acts made the land area of its forest in Ujung Kulon National Park decreased in significant ways. Taman Jaya community which located near the forest, had good impression of the National Park, because of they had direct benefits from Ujung Kulon National Park. The main problems of the acts that done by the community it is because thoughts of the community people which located afar from National Park that did not actually get the benefits of Ujung Kulon National Park’s existence and its programs which made by the government. It can be followed by the decreasing of forest area and it also affect the decreasing of its forest stands in National Park. For the next future, it will affect its water quality of Ujung Kulon National Park which channeled into local public housing areas. The settlement which must be done by both sides is they should be holding a discussion between themselves regarding the issues. Another one solution is, National Park must be developing the human resources of Taman Jaya community so that the issues between both parties can be decreased.
